About ICEA
Goals:
Indigenous Children in remote Australia are provided with opportunities to enhance their education experience and this translates to better life opportunities for themselves and their families.
Perth’s future leaders have a good understanding of Aboriginal culture, Aboriginal communities and issues faced by Aboriginal young people and this translates to future advocacy and action on behalf of Aboriginal people.
Objectives
To Facilitate educational opportunities for young people in remote communities by:
- Providing incentives for school attendance by Aboriginal children who attend Aboriginal community schools through the provision of sporting equipment such as Footballs, Basketballs and Toys upon 85% attendance at school.
- Providing supplementary books and reading materials to remote Aboriginal community schools to be made available to students and their parents.
- Hosting art workshops in Aboriginal communities through the coordination of art students and other stakeholders.
- Supporting community training programs for Aboriginal young people.
- Providing training programs in general first aid, resuscitation and basic skills to communities on the Coast.
To develop cultural awareness and understanding for Australian youth by:
- Facilitating leadership camps for Year 11 and Year 12 students to remote Aboriginal communities to educate on Aboriginal issues, community specific circumstances and Aboriginal culture as well as to participate in community building activities.
- Creating a culture of Aboriginal awareness at secondary schools through leadership, student committees, celebration of NAIDOC week and the establishment of the “Marja Mob”.
- Sustaining Aboriginal cultural awareness beyond school by creating opportunities for school leavers to be involved in the ICEA “family”.
- Teaching cultural awareness to Australia’s future leaders through the provision of cultural awareness training and the support for the introduction of Indigenous studies at high school.
ICEA is supported by many organisations to assist raising awareness and developing our future leaders.
